MORE ABOUT SUMMER CAMPS

There are 8 camps (1 week in length) that will run concurrently with the BEST camps from June 7 through July 31. Due to this incredible opportunity we will apply an application fee to each week of the camp. The each camp will include rocketry, engineering, math, earth sciences, physical sciences, aviation, aerospace, electronics, simulators, flying airplanes, and much more. Breakfast and Lunch will be included each day and a before and after care will be available for our younger camp participants. Featured guests will include Daryl Baynes (Rocket Man), astronauts, NASA engineers, cryogenic experts and many others. There will be several orientations held to facilitate pre-registration and to answer parent and students questions (date and place TBA). SUMMER CAMPS When: Monday  Friday (Three camps will be 6 days) Time: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Before Care [7 a.m.  9 a.m.] and After Care [4 p.m.  6 p.m.] Where: Stedman Elementary, 2940 Dexter Street, Denver, CO 80029 Fees: Each camp-$135/week; pre-registration $125/week; before/after care + camp $185/week; Multiple sibling discount; multiple week discounts, 6-day camps Addl $25/week. Service Academy Orientation DAy

Greetings Everyone, We have selected the US Air Force Academy for the location of Service Academies Orientation Day on Saturday May 15, 2010. The location will be at Arnold Hall on the west side of the Campus near the mountain just across from the Planetarium. You can park in the parking lot to the west of the building. Please arrive about 9:30 am at Arnold Hall. The class will begin at 10:00 sharp. If you wish to get an early start you can click on the Visionaries button on the left side of the page on the SHADES web site. www.ourshadesofblue.org . Once there you can select link to which of the Academies you are interested in attending. There you can find all of the requirements for being selected as a Cadet, and the information about the various institutions themselves. The location of the Academy is at I-25 and exit 156 or North Academy Entrance. This is about 5 miles North of Colorado Springs. You will go pass a guard and if they stop you tell them you are going to Arnold Hall and they point you in the right direction. We will look forward to seeing you there. Fly Day with United Airlines

Unite Airlines volunteered their services  757 and 767 simulators and 4 flight instructors  to the Shades Of Blue students, parents and volunteers. Everyone had a chance to experience to take off, fly around and land a commercial airline with full motion and visual. Shades of Blue president, Willie Daniels, who is a United Airline pilot was instrumental with making a dream come true for over 50 students, parents, and volunteer. 1st Annual Christmas Party

Our 1st Annual Christmas party at the United Airlines Flight Training Center Cafeteria was enjoyed by all. This event was designed to give the SHADES OF BLUE Students and Parents an opportunity to meet and greet the SHADES OF BLUE Board Members. Everyone got right into the holiday spirit. The board members brought the food and refreshments and the guests brought a wrapped gift which will be donated to children in need. Wings Over the Rockies and Young Eagles at Centennial Airport

Wings Over the Rockies, Young Eagles and Shades of Blue were at Centennial Airport Saturday morning addressing around 100 students, parents and volunteers about various programs in aviation. Harrison Ford, who is a spoke person for Young Eagles, along with about 10 other pilots and their aircraft took the kids up for a thrilling flight. Annual Awards Dinner

The Shades of Blue organization and its loyal sponsors will hosted its 2009 Auction and Annual Awards Dinner at Denvers Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, 7711 East Academy Blvd. Denver, CO. Located on the grounds of former Lowry Air Force Base in the renovated flight hangar #1, the Museum is home to over three dozen historic airplanes and space vehicles. The Event took place on September 25th, 2009, pre-ceded on September 24th by our Annual Golf Tournament. At the dinner ceremonies, we honored teachers, educators, and members of the aerospace and scientific communities who have demonstrated exceptional support of their students during the past year. In the past six years, we have honored astronauts, educators, pilots, teachers, and corporate officials for their support. During this special fun-filled and informative night, the Museum was open several aircraft cockpits and other unique scientific and historical exhibits to those who attend. Our 2009 SHADES OF BLUE Ed Dwight Jr. Awards and Corporate Recognition Awards followed dinner. Photo`s of the event can be found on the link below. Annual Golf Tournament-Green Gables Country Club

The September 24th Golf Tournament, played as a 4-man scramble, will take place at the beautiful Green Gables Country Club of Denver. First tee is 1:00 pm,however, a lunch is included beginning at 11:30 am. Prizes will be awarded for the longest drive, closest to the pin, and a hole-in-one. The donation/entry fee is $150.00 and is due by the 7th of September. Please contact us at info@ourshadesofblue.org or 303-549-6204 to sign up for the event. More details of this event will follow in a few weeks. All donated funds will be used in direct support of Shades of Blue student programs.

2009 ACE CAMP JULY 15 - 18

2009 ACE CAMP Another great event. Wednesday we went to Lockheed-Martin Rocket Assembly Plant(Students with an interest in Engineering, Math, Physics, Astronautics, etc.) Thursday we traveled to Colorado Springs to do a mini tour of the Academy grounds, and fly a simulated trip to outer space, Friday we were at the United Airlines Training Center to fly B777 and AB320 simulators. Saturday we were at Front Range Airport flying single engine simulators from Front Range airport to other airports in Colorado To see the photo`s of these event go to the link below and enjoy.

OBAP/DSU/SOBI Solo Flight Academy

It is that time of year again for applications to the Solo Flight Academy sponsored by Shades of Blue, the Organization of Black Airline Pilots, and Delaware State University. In order to participate, students must be between the ages of 16 and 19, by the first day of the Academy. In order to have your transportation costs and fees sponsored by Shades of Blue, you have to: 1. Submit an essay (between 250-300 words); Topic: How will the solo program help me reach my future career goals? Due Date: April 22, 2009 to info@ourshadesofblue.org or eagledart@aol.com 2. Be an active Shades of Blue Student (this means you participated in at least three SOBI events during 2008-2009) 3. Submit Application and fee to OBAP at the address indicated below before May 1, 2009. This years OBAP/DSU Solo Flight Academy, will take place in Dover, Delaware on June 27th through July 11thth, 2009. The fee for the OBAP Solo Flight Academy is *$300. The application and $300 fee must be submitted no later than May 1, 2009. The deadline for refunds is June 1, 2009. Please call Capt. Mandatory Orientation for Tutoring/AFA Program

For those Shades of Blue students that have appllied to the tutoring program and one-week stay at the Air Force Academy, your orientation will be held at the Omar D. Blair Charter School on Tuesday April 7, 2009. We will meet at the school at 6:30 p.m. Plan on being there for no more than 90 minutes. Omar D.
